Additional Learning Support

There is a comprehensive range of learning support with qualified and skilled staff, which aims to meet individual needs by promoting an inclusive social and educational environment, helping all learners to maximise their full potential.

Types and levels of support will vary for each individual learner, including both direct and indirect support strategies:

  • Transition planning
  • Comprehensive Assessment and Individual Learning Plans including target setting
  • 1:1 learning support assistance for educational, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties
  • Planning, implementing and monitoring of support plans
  • Guidance on classroom management strategies
  • Liaison with parents and other relevant professionals

Transport

If you have received SEN transport at school it is likely that this will continue for your course at College until you reach the designated maximum age e.g. 21 years in Nottingham, 25 years in Derbyshire.

The College can offer advice and guidance on criteria and the application process together with your Local Education Authority.

EMA

The EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance) is available to school leavers enrolling on a full-time college course. This weekly payment of up to £30 will really help out towards cost of equipment, resources and trips/visits that you may need to contribute towards.

For more information and details on how to apply, log onto www.dfes.gov.uk or call 01623 627191 and speak to the EMA Team on ext 2353.
